We are front and center at the “Packaging Waste Reduction Summit” at the United Nations Headquarters in New York in Fall 2021. It begins with a consumer marketing campaign that brings awareness to the problem, how we will fix it, and to ensure people use it. Own It. Be the Change.
Vessl™ is a multi-award-winning patented bottle closure or ‘cap’ that delivers instant, fresh formulations through the pressurized mixing of ingredients immediately prior to use. Scottish inventor Bernard Frutin first designed the cap before its purchase by Vessl. Frutin is widely known for his contribution to the invention of the Widget used in Guinness beers.
By removing the oxygen from the cap and replacing it with nitrogen, the Vessl enclosure prevents degradation, ensures freshness, and eliminates the need for chemical preservatives. The caps also use ultraviolet light and a thermal resistant material. To ensure effective mixing, the cap is filled with active ingredients and then pressurized. When the cap is twisted, active ingredients are released into the receiving bottle, in a unique experience that leaves many first-time users awestruck.
Apart from lending a unique opening experience, Vessl Technology is critical to ensure dosing and efficacy remains predictable and potent. Vessl is a breakthrough for vitamins, pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, cannabinoids and antioxidants, which can rapidly degrade when exposed to oxygen, heat, and ultraviolet light.
According to Walter Apodaca, the CEO of Vessl, “the technology could be used for cosmetic, chemical, medical and pharmaceutical applications, the precise dosing and instant mixing provided by Vessl eliminates complexity and allows for revolutionary packaging systems.”
Beacon Hill Brands (BHB) based in Toronto, discovered this new technology and acquired the Canada-wide rights for the technology to be used in functional beverage applications. BHB plans to formulate and distribute a wide variety of products including sleep aids, anxiety medications, recreational and medicinal cannabinoid beverages, pain relief remedies, and other classic beverages such as ready-to-drink flavoured teas.
With single use plastics being phased out, this technology is capable of eradicating the single use bottle paradigm. The cap is 100% recyclable, and further innovation is on the way for a fully biodegradable plastic for the caps. Customers can only use Vessl caps once; however, the bottles may be refilled and used again with another cap. A world of opportunities has been created by the Vessl cap now that the bottle's production no longer limits us.
Current Usages:
Tea of a Kind™ uses Vessl technology to provide consumers with freshly brewed flavoured tea with the twist of the cap. In addition to keeping the product fresh, the Vessl cap technology also increases its shelf life while reducing the number of bottles used.
Several cannabis products in the US, including Kalvara and Monaco Pearl, also use Vessl caps. The cap technology solves some of the most challenging hurdles for cannabis beverages by ensuring dosages are accurate and active ingredients do not degrade over time.
In the cosmetics market, Amway's Artistry Signature Select Serum uses the Vessl cap to allow consumers to personalize their skincare. The consumer can twist up to three different amplifier caps, each with a different property, into the base serum resulting in a skincare product tailored to their needs.
